Call today!*** For the 5th time, families from all over Georgia and the South will gather for the MEGA Family Project’s Annual Family Vacation- a weekend of fun, adventure, and community. MEGA’s 5th Annual Family Vacation will provide a safe and fun space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender couples, parents, their children, and our friends and family to gather on beautiful Lake Lanier Island resort. It is an idyllic opportunity for our children to meet other children with LGBT parents, and for parents to meet other parents and share experiences. The weekend will be filled with opportunities to celebrate LGBT families and for families to make connections with other families like theirs.
To attend the MEGA Family Vacation, you must do two things: 1. Register with the MEGA Family Project from this web page. 2. Reserve your accommodations at Lake Lanier Island Resort if you are staying on Lake Lanier. Click here to view pictures from our 2006 MEGA Vacation! Who comes to the MEGA Family Vacation? My partner and I don’t have kids. Are we welcome? Everyone is welcome to attend the MEGA Family Vacation, no matter if you have young children, older kids, or no children at all! Though Family Week is primarily intended for LGBT families, extended family members, non-LGBT-headed families, prospective parents and LGBT or non-LGBT couples and singles attend as well.
Set on the picturesque blue shores of Lake Sidney Lanier, the 1,100-acre resort in Georgia provides a variety of deluxe amenities and services in a setting of unparalleled natural splendor. The grounds feature a diverse selection of accommodations from the Legacy Lodge & Conference Center to 30 sublime lakeside cottages and six executive villas, to floating houseboats, and a beautiful campground. Activities abound for every taste with options such as our award-winning golf courses, adventurous horseback riding, pampering spa services, and luxury boat rentals. Families gather at the fun-filled Beach & Water Park, open during the summertime.
Accommodation Information: Families find their own housing and pay for their own food unless otherwise noted. Depending on your family's budget, you have several different options for your accommodations. We are encouraging most families to stay at the Lake Lanier Island Lake Houses if possible. They are all next to each other and will give you the best location for the weekend. You can also stay at the resort hotel, rent a houseboat and dock near the lake houses, stay in villas, and stay in the resorts campground for the least expensive option. July is high season, so we expect the accommodations to sell out, so please reserve your accommodations today. If you tell Lake Lanier you are with the MEGA Family Project, they will make every effort to put you with other MEGA families. If you are interested in staying with another family in the 2 bedroom/2bath lake house with an additional fold out bed, please contact Kathy@megafamilyproject.org and we will do our best to match you with another family.

Get some more information about the accommodations by clicking below: *please note your registration fees are separate from your accommodation reservation. You must contact Lake Lanier Island Resort to reserve your accommodations. Lake Houses (make sure you tell them you are with MEGA to get placed near other MEGA families)-we highly recommend! They are clean, have great ammenities and a terrific view. If you are staying at a lake house, you can easily bring your own groceries and do your cooking inside the lake house to avoid the extra expense of restaurants. In addition, the lake houses have a romantic fire place and deck on each unit. Legacy Lodge Rooms and Suites -nice rooms, with a large pool and restaurant nearby, but not as convenient as the lake houses. Villas-very nice and a little pricey. Might not be the best for loud kids as they tend to cater toward business travelers. Campground- this is your most affordable accommodation option. As far as camp sites go, we were impressed with how nice they were kept and how every site has a beautiful view of the lake. Click on the link above to get pricing. House Boats--this could be a very cool experience for a couple of families to join together to do. It is fairly expensive, and you would want to take into account safety issues for having small children on board. We have been told the house boats can dock right near the lake houses for easy access to the programs. Click here to register online with Lake Lanier Island for any of the above accomodations. You can also call 1-800-840-5253 to make your reservation. Off Site Lodging-- You may be able to find less expensive lodging off site, but from our research it will not be much of a savings. You will also need to keep in mind that you will have to pay an entry fee to come into the resort each day.
MEGA Family Vacation Registration Rates Single Parents $110 Current Dues Paying Members $140 Non-Dues Paying Family $190 Saturday Only Registration(with waterpark tickets) $100 Saturday Only Registration $50 Reduced Registration Rate $100 (if you can't afford regular rate) Prospective Parents who agree to volunteer during the weekend are automatically entitled to the Reduced Registration Rate. Prospective parents, please e-mail Kathy@megafamilyproject.org if you plan to take advantage of this offer. Others may choose the reduced registration rate if they feel they cannot afford the regular registration rate. This is the honor system, so simply select that category when registering. *lodging scholarships are available, but you must send a letter to Kathy@megafamilyproject.org by July 7th to request a scholarship and explain a little about your family situation and why you want to attend the Family Vacation.
