Our membership consists of families created through many different means, and we strive to make sure our families have the legal and emotional support they need to live healthy, happy lives in Georgia. Our families consist of single parents, male same-sex couples, female same-sex couples, transgender couples, and households headed by LGBT grandparents. Currently in Georgia, marriage and civil unions do not exist to offer the legal protections heterosexual couples enjoy. Adoption by same-sex couples is not illegal in the state, but currently only certain jurisdictions will allow same-sex parents to adopt. Adoptions are up to the discretion of the judge. The MEGA Family Project offers many resources to help families thrive. We offer social events to bring parents and children together, so parents can get the information and support they need, and so children can experience and see other families like theirs. Our largest event of the year to assist families is our annual MEGA Family Conference, which is an all-day conference for parents, prospective parents, educators, and children with LGBT parents. We also provide significant resources to people wanting to add children to their families through our Creating a Family workshops and our Prospective Parent support group.
